DEPARTMENT DETAILS

The Department of Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry at CKS Theja Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Tirupati was established in 2001. Pediatric Dentistry is one of the most interesting, challenging and rewarding dental specialities.Our child friendly pediatric dental department includes sophisticated equipment and the most current dental techniques to provideprimary and speciality oral health care needs to children from birth through adolescence including children with special health care needs.The clinical setup boasts of a cheerful atmosphere conducive to the rendering of dental treatment to children of all ages & complying to the standards of a dental hospital.

Our Department is well equipped with confident, experienced and most enthusiastic team of teaching faculty to train under graduatesto develop necessary clinical skills for providing basic dental care to children with emphasis on preventive and restorative dentistry.Post-graduates are trained in all aspects of advanced pediatric dentistry including complete dental care of very young children and children who are medically, mentally or physically challenged using most advanced techniques and specialized techniques like Consious Sedation and General Anesthesia. More than just treating the problem, we practice proactive dentistry to help avoid future dental problems and offer complete preventive and interceptive orthodontics for young children and adolescents.The measure of our success is in the number of smiling faces.

We have an excellent child friendly reception desk where patients receive a warm greeting and are guided to the OPD or treatment areas. A cheerful playroom with lots of toys and activities makes the waiting period a pleasurable one for the little ones. The undergraduate clinic currently houses 20 dental chairs with provision for more. The post graduate clinic, currently accommodate 13 dental chairs for post graduate students with are fully-equipped.

The Department alsohouses isolation room, consious sedation room and recovery room equipped for the treatment of children with behavior problems. A separate room are for radiology which includes advanced radiograph techniques like intraoral radio-visiographyand automatic developer machine.

The spacious seminar room also doubles as the department library, with a capacity for comfortably seating upto 50 students. Students can make presentations using overhead projectors as well as whiteboard. The Department has a Wi-Fi connection, excellent library with wide range collections of textbooks of Pediatric Dentistry and allied dental and medical specialities and access to many international and national journals related to both pediatric dentistry and other branches. Separate sterilization room and dental laboratorywith all required facilities are conveniently located separately for both undergraduate and postgraduate clinics.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The Department of Pedodontics is located on the first floor of CKS Theja Institute of Dental Sciences and Research. The Department is colorful with different concepts for each wall, full scenes of creatures that are attractive and entertaining – an exclusive and unique story – leading the visitors into a fantasy world. It is spread over more than 5000 sq. feet of floor area. We have a children play area for patients to wait or spend their time either before or after treatment and also have Television to provide entertainment for the children. We are equipped with 35 dental chair units with all auxiliary dental equipment and attachments. We have state of the art facilitieslike nitrous oxide sedation and general anesthesia with necessary recovery room to manage special child and uncooperative child. The emergency kit contains the necessary armamentaria to treat effectively any potential medical emergency that may occur in the Department. We best understand the importance of the current concepts and growing demand for advanced pedodontictechniques and treatments. Our Department is well furnished with most advanced instruments including controlled computer controlled anesthetic delivery device, digitalized radiograph, electric pulp tester, intraoral camera, endodontic loops, apex locator, endomotor, injectable guttapercha.We have a museum to educate the children and/or parents about the correct methods to maintain a proper oral health and also the ill-effects of not taking proper care of the teeth.
